Project Summary

The Tyabb Landfill, operated from 1988 to 1995. During this period, the site was licenced to accept putrescible waste, solid inert waste, asbestos and shredded pneumatic automotive tyres. When the premises ceased accepting waste in 1995 an initial clay cap was constructed over the waste mass. In 2017/2018 an engineered cap was further constructed. The site is regulated as a closed landfill under the Environmental Protection Act 2017, and it is now managed under contract as the Tyabb Resource Recover Centre.

The project aims to ensure the landfill capping is restored to meet regulatory standards, reduce surface water contribution to leachate generation and to undertake works to allow for better management of leachate. These works aim to reduce impacts to the surrounding environment through capping rehabilitation of the existing cap.
