Rosebud - Bayview Road - Motorcycle Safety Levy

  • Project typeRoads, Streetscapes and Footpaths
  • Project value$383,000

Overview

The objective of this project is to improve motorcyclist safety along Bayview Road between Hove Road and Flinders Avenue. This intersection has been identified as a dangerous site for motorcyclists due to the following factors:

  • Gravel: along Bayview Road east of the intersection with Old Cape Schank Road as well as between Old Cape Schank Road and Hove Road, increasing the potential for motorcyclists to lose control.

  • Signage: Improper use of uni-directional hazard markers to delineate the curve along Bayview Road which provides inadequate guidance for motorists through the curve.

  • Sightlines: Sightlines looking for vehicles travelling southbound on Jetty Road to the intersection is limited due to existing vegetation along the north eastern side of the roadway.

Proposed treatments

To address these issues, the following treatments are proposed:

  • Install a sealed shoulder along Bayview Road east of Cape Schank and

  • Install CAMs with appropriate spacing

  • Trim back vegetation to improve sightlines

  • Install bellmouth seals on Bayview Road.
