Roadworks and closures

Road closures

Roads on the Peninsula will be closed from time to time to allow the safe running of events and implementation of works on or near our roads. To ensure these closures are safely managed, in advance, companies running these events/works submit an application including their Traffic Management Plans. View our Known road closures within Mornington Peninsula Shire(PDF, 145KB) which is updated when applications for road closures are granted.

Utility companies will often have to undertake emergency works and these may not be included in our road closures list.

Planned Road Maintenance

As part of the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Safer Local Roads Program, an extensive road resurfacing program and grading program is carried out across the Mornington Peninsula every year. Information about these programs can be found on the Road Grading and Road Resurfacing pages of the website.

Road infrastructure works

Road works being undertaken by the Shire are listed within our Current Projects pages. The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) also undertake roadworks within the Peninsula. Find their current project(s) below:

Uralla Drive, Mount Martha

This is a Department of Transport (DTP) project, contact them directly on 13 11 70 or DOTroadprojects@roads.vic.gov.au.

Following the Australian Government’s Independent Strategic Review of the Infrastructure Investment Program, DTP are now recommencing their work on this project.

We’ll have further updates for the community in the coming months.

Planned works

The upgrade will include:

  • new traffic lights with pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Uralla Road and Nepean Highway
  • realigning Uralla Road to form a cross-intersection with Nepean Highway and The Briars entrance
  • other pedestrian and bike rider safety improvements.

Benefits

When the upgrade is completed, it will:

  • create safer access for drivers entering into or exiting from Uralla Road and The Briars
  • improve safety for all road users at the intersection, including vulnerable road users such as bike riders
  • meet the demands of future population and economic growth in the area.
